Head of Research and Development (R&D) China

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a SVP / VP Research and Development (R&D) China. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our R&D strategy and operations in China, including managing local teams, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and driving successful clinical development programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, manage and lead local teams (e.g. clinical research and operation teams), providing guidance and support as needed in alignment with BioNTech values.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to BioNTech partnered companies, regulatory agencies, academic and research institutions.
- Help drive clinical development programs by identifying new collaborations, opportunities and developing innovative solutions. Monitor and analyze trends and competition within China, and adjust strategies as needed to maintain a competitive edge.
- Assist in oversight of CRO partners and vendors in China (compliance, management plans and budget).
- Develop and drive strategy for execution of Phase I to III clinical trials for multiple oncology indications in China; provide input and contribute to global development strategy for BioNTech´s pipeline assets and define go-to-market strategy for China for BioNTech programs.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive R&D strategy for China in collaboration with global development organization.
- Develop and manage budgets and financial plans, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively.
- Ensure compliance with all local laws and regulations, including those related to safety, health, and the environment.
Qualifications:
- MD, PhD or PharmD in medical or similar field, at least 15 years of experience in biopharmaceutical development roles and at least 10 years of experience in R&D leadership roles, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Experience in oncology developments, additional specific experience with biologic drugs and/or advanced therapies is preferred. Successful track record of direct contribution to global drug development and approvals for China market and beyond.
- Excellent knowledge of CFDA good understanding of and global regulatory frameworks, GCPs, ICH guidelines for all phases of Clinical Development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels and regions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
